Padres vs. Phillies score: Live updates f

The San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies are continuing the National League Championship Series on Friday night with Game 3, this time in the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park. The best-of-seven series is tied at 1-1 after the teams split the first two games in San Diego. The Phillies wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in Game 3, as Kyle Schwarber led off with a home run. Here’s how to watch Game 3.

The Padres are starting Joe Musgrove. During the regular season, he posted a 2.93 ERA (127 ERA+) and a 4.38 strikeout-to-walk ratio while making his first career All-Star Game. The Phillies are countering with lefty Ranger Suárez. He amassed a 3.65 ERA (111 ERA+) and a 2.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 29 regular season starts.

The winner of the NLCS will advance to the World Series where they’ll play either the Houston Astros or the New York Yankees. (The Astros are leading that series 2-0.) You can follow along below with all of CBS Sports’ live coverage of Game 3.

Six-pitch inning for Suárez

Now that’s how it’s done in a series with no more off days. Ranger has thrown 40 pitches through three. He looks great.

Gold Glove finalist Juan Soto

Misplayed a Stott hit into a one-out double. He’s stranded at third as Musgrove has at least somewhat settled in. 40 pitches through two innings.

And, no, even before that play, Soto wasn’t in the top three best defensive NL right fielders.

Phillies leave a runner at third

Phils leave a man stranded for the second inning in a row. Musgrove hasn’t been sharp, but he’s gotten the big outs he’s needed. 1-0 Phillies after two innings.

Suarez scoreless through two

The Padres made Ranger Suarez work a little harder in the second inning. They had a 35.7-mph single and a 104.8-mph fly out. Suarez has thrown 33 pitches to get six outs.

Harper and double plays

Bryce Harper was a little more GIDP-prone this season. Coming into 2022, he averaged 11 double plays hit into per 162 games played. This season, however, he hit into 13 in just 99 regular-season games.

Musgrove escapes

Joe Musgrove got no outs on his first 22 pitches. He got three outs on his next two. Musgrove got Harper to ground into a double play and then Nick Castellanos grounded out to end the threat. 1-0 Phillies after one inning.

Mixed bag for Musgrove

Bryce Harper swinging through that 1-1 fastball seemed to turn things around. The Harper double play and then quick groundout to Castellanos got Musgrove out with just one run allowed. Still, 24 pitches and most were high stress. Could go either way. The Phillies tired him out early or end up regretting not scoring more.

19 pitches and no outs

Musgrove has walked the next two batters after the Schwarber homer, bringing Bryce Harper to the dish with two on. Some light stirring is occurring in the Padres bullpen, but nobody throwing yet.

As noted, Musgrove likes breaking balls, but so do the Phillies. Well, he went all hard stuff to Schwarber, and he didn’t miss on that full-count cutter.

Leadoff blast by Kyle Schwarber. That’s fun. First Phillies NLCS batter at home since 2010 and he goes yard.

Schwarbomb to start

It’s 1-0 Phillies one batter into the game. Kyle Schwarber launches a 3-2 pitch from Joe Musgrove to the seats. Didn’t quite go 488 feet. But these folks don’t care.
