‘Almost like England came and expected to win’

HT: England v USA

Micah Richards

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought England were average at best. They have been sloppy. In possession they have been too slow and it needs John Stones and Harry Maguire to step into midfield with the ball to create the space and draw the USA strikers towards them. There has been too many sidewards passes.

It is almost like England have come to the game and expected to win. The midfield has been non-existent. USA probably deserve to be ahead if I’m honest.

England 0-0 USA

Another US chance.

A cross from the right is met by Christian Pulisic, but he is in a bunch of players and not renowned for his heading. The effort bobbles wide.

Gareth Southgate is sure to be very worried by this. England are getting pulled about and the US are finding the gaps too easily.

Dan: We’re looking sluggish. USA running rings around us at times. The final result will be the ultimate judge. But from where i’m sitting, we need a rethink if we’re in with a chance in this tournament.

Andy: Normal service resumed for England after the Iran game. Slow, lacking in inspiration going forward, nervy at the back. Gareth needs to try something else after half time to liven things up, perhaps Rashford for Kane.

Dunks: We look slow, lethargic and impotent. Let’s not look back tomorrow and regret not using the talent on the bench. Time to be brave. Midfield been anonymous. Rashford, Foden and Grealish all going to be a level up and proper motivated. Half time subs please.

‘Don’t get into a frenetic game with USA’

England 0-0 USA

Rob Green

Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is better from England. It is about picking the time to attack. You don’t want to get into a frenetic game with this USA side because that is

Concerns for England

England 0-0 USA

Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Al Bayt Stadium

England very laboured so far and it is USA who are threatening most. Weston McKennie should have scored while Christian Pulisic was desperately unlucky to hit the woodwork.

No zip to England’s play. Harry Maguire and John Stones also need to stop just passing to each other and actually do something with the ball

SMS Message: I’m sure when we win, the argument will be the end justifies the means but I hate this ponderous, dull football we play now. If we had a real go at them with pace from the start we might be out of sight by now and the game would be good to watch. If Foden was on he’d be taking the ball and running at them. Sterling and Mount are just not in good enough form at the moment. Grealish and Foden should replace them. from Geard, Hunmanby

Drinks aplenty in Bellingham’s home town

Alex Homer

Reporting from Stourbridge, West Midlands

The bar is pouring drinks faster than the glasses can come out of the dishwasher at times at Jude Bellingham’s home town club.

There’s no risk of supporters going thirsty at Stourbridge FC, West Midlands, though – there’s a stash of disposable glasses at the ready.
